BC Advanced Sea Kayak Leader Assessment

North Wales, Anglesey - £280 - 2 day
During the two days, we will cover as many aspects of the Advanced Leader Syllabus as time and conditions allow. This will be done in advanced tidal waters, in winds of above Beaufort force 4, where tide races and overfalls or open crossings may be encountered and cannot be avoided. You will be assessed leading a group of fellow paddlers (min 3) of around moderate ability.
During the following two days you will be assessed on your ability and decision making to lead a group in advanced tidal waters and dynamic weather conditions, incident management, navigation, tidal planning and personal skills. There will be a night navigation paddle on Saturday.
The following prerequisites for assessment are required:
- 30+ independent sea kayaking days following completion of the Sea Kayak Leader (moderate water) award
– in advanced conditions in 3 different UK sea areas - BC Sea Kayak Leader (moderate water) award completed (or gain APL exemption from British Canoeing)
- BC Open Water Navigation and Tidal Planning
- Safeguarding Training (BC online course may be suitable)
- 16-hour (2 day) First Aid certificate (inc CPR) within the last 3 years
- British Canoeing Online Registration

We will beach surf or choose a downwind paddle if it is windy. If calm, we will choose one of the many tide races to work with.
This course is aimed at Intermediate and moderate water paddlers who are comfortable in F4 winds, a 1-metre swell, and 2 knots of moving water, as a minimum.

We’ll use venues around the Anglesey coast so you can progressively experience dynamic water at a pace and level to suit you and the group best.
Our Intermediate course aims to enable you to gain confidence, have fun, and develop skills and awareness in a gentle dynamic water environment.

Great day with Sally working on boat handling, reading the water and its ok to feel uncomfortable.
Cemaes to Bull Bay was perfect, with wind with tide and then wind against by the afternoon so we got a few waves and a nice push along the coast.
It was nice to see Rob again too. Thanks for helping with the shutle!

Surf & tide race course, with a good blend of dynamic water over the three days. With Rhoscolyn and the Beacon, Cemaes to Bull Bay via Middle Mouse and the Swellies. We had some super rock features on the north coast on Friday and just the right amount of swell. My highlight was this interesting water spout - it was so much fun!
