This moderate tidal water sea kayak leader training course will cover personal performance skills, leadership, improvised rescue and navigation.

The course aims to provide paddlers with the tools to plan and navigate effectively on coastal journeys in moderate sea conditions - f4 winds, up to 2 nautical miles offshore, 1-metre beach surf and areas of tidal movement up to 2 knots.

At the end of your leader sea kayaking skills course, you will also have the opportunity to discuss the action plan you've created with Rogers support.

Previous experience and requirements for attending a training course, so that all benefit is that you have the ability and skill to paddle in:

  • Bf3/4 winds from any direction
  • surf 0.5-1.0 metre waves and swell
  • 2 knots of current
  • self-rescue and roll (most of the time)
  • manage an assisted rescue in previously described conditions.

For the British Canoeing Sea Kayak Leader training course, moderate water sea guidance notes can be found here and here.

Over a four-day course, we aim to exceed the training requirements for this award and go into more depth, allowing more time for reflection, discussion and being out on the sea in a mix of conditions.

If you want this course to be registered with British Canoeing you gain 20 Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points. In that case, you will need to let Roger know. British Canoeing Awarding Body training courses and awards will automatically update your record with CPD points.  More info is here.

Roger can also offer you Short, Medium or Long Term Sea Kayak Mentoring, so you get more out of your paddling and time on the water with quality support, coaching and guidance.  Follow this link for more information.

What a couple of people have said ...

Thanks, Roger, great week.  Feel like I've moved on so much in lots of ways.

 Cheers, Gordon - Cheshire.

Thank you very much for the nice pictures and the course.  Three days proved to be really valuable for me and gave me extra motivation to continue in the BC performance & leadership awards system.

All the best, Mikk - Estonia

Stella King

"There are a number of wonderful things about Roger. He has a very light touch in his coaching, and he's always smiling and encouraging you to relax into the enjoyment of the day"

Tavi Murray

"And I'm probably learning more from his mentoring now, as my paddling horizons expand, than ever before. I can't count how many questions I've asked... and he's answered. Roger has the knack of making that suggestion that radically changes your thinking and moves your paddling on in leaps and bounds."

Simon Turnbull

"I've just completed a two day 4* Sea kayak training course with Roger. Having been coached by Roger in the past, I choose to do this course with Roger because I knew I would get a great deal from the course. My expectations were certainly well and truly met"

Thanks for a good week kayaking last year.  Over Christmas/New Year I found myself reflecting back over the year just gone, and decided it was amongst the highlights of my year ....
